Palak Chicken Recipe (Pakistani Style)

Palak Chicken is a nutritious and flavorful Pakistani curry made with tender chicken cooked in a rich spinach gravy. This comforting dish is perfect for everyday meals and pairs beautifully with roti, naan, or rice.

For Palak (Spinach)

  • 3 cups fresh palak (spinach), washed

  • 2 cups water

  • 2 green chilies

For Chicken Gravy

  • ½ kg chicken (bone-in or boneless)

  • 3 tbsp oil or ghee

  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)

  • 2 tomatoes (chopped)

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste)

  • 1 tsp red chili powder

  • ½ tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • ½ tsp cumin powder

  • ½ tsp garam masala

For Garnish

  • Fresh coriander

  • Ginger julienne

  • Green chili slices (optional)


🍲 Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Palak

  1. Boil spinach with water and green chilies for 3–4 minutes.

  2. Drain and blend into a smooth paste. Set aside.

Step 2: Make the Chicken Base

  1. Heat oil in a pan.

  2. Add onions and fry until light golden.

  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and sautΓ© for 1 minute.

  4. Add tomatoes and cook until soft and oil separates.

Step 3: Add Chicken & Spices

  1. Add chicken pieces and fry for 5–7 minutes.

  2. Add salt, red chili powder, turmeric, coriander powder, and cumin powder.

  3. Cook until chicken changes color and masala thickens.

Step 4: Add Palak

  1. Add prepared spinach paste to the chicken.

  2. Mix well and add ½ cup water if needed.

  3. Cover and cook on low heat for 15–20 minutes until chicken is tender.

Step 5: Final Touch

  1. Sprinkle garam masala.

  2. Garnish with coriander, ginger, and green chilies.

  3. Simmer for 2 minutes and turn off heat.
