Kofta Aloo Recipe (Pakistani Style)

Kofta Aloo is a delicious Pakistani curry made with juicy minced meat koftas and tender potatoes cooked in a spicy tomato-onion gravy. This comforting dish is perfect for family dinners and special occasions.




🧅 Ingredients

For Koftas

  • ½ kg minced beef or chicken

  • 1 small onion (very finely chopped or grated)

  • 1 green chili (finely chopped)

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander (chopped)

  • 1 tbsp besan (gram flour)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp red chili powder

  • ½ tsp cumin powder

  • ½ tsp garam masala

For Curry

  • 3 tbsp oil

  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)

  • 2 tomatoes (blended)

  • 2 medium potatoes (cubed)

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp red chili powder

  • ½ tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • ½ tsp cumin powder

  • ½ tsp garam masala

  • 2 cups water (or as needed)

For Garnish

  • Fresh coriander

  • Green chilies (optional)


🍲 Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Koftas

  1. In a bowl, combine minced meat, onion, green chili, ginger-garlic paste, coriander, besan, and spices.

  2. Mix well and shape into small round koftas.

  3. Keep aside.

Step 2: Make the Curry Base

  1. Heat oil in a pot.

  2. Add onions and fry until golden.

  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 1 minute.

  4. Add blended tomatoes and cook until oil separates.

  5. Add all dry spices and mix well.

Step 3: Add Potatoes & Koftas

  1. Add potatoes and ½ cup water.

  2. Gently place koftas into the curry. Do not stir.

  3. Cover and cook on low heat for 20–25 minutes until koftas and potatoes are cooked.

Step 4: Finish

  1. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with coriander.

  2. Simmer uncovered for 2–3 minutes.

Serve hot with:
✔ Roti or chapati
✔ Naan
✔ Steamed rice
✔ Salad or raita

  • Refrigerate for 2 days in an airtight container.

  • Reheat on low heat with a little water.
