Chicken Qorma Recipe (Pakistani Style)

Chicken Qorma is a royal Mughlai dish made with yogurt, whole spices, and fried onions. This creamy, mildly spicy curry is a staple at weddings, Eid, and family gatherings.




๐Ÿงพ Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • ½ kg chicken (bone-in preferred)

  • ½ cup oil or ghee

  • 2 medium onions (thinly sliced)

  • 1 cup yogurt (whisked)

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • Salt to taste

Whole Spices

  • 3–4 green cardamoms

  • 1 black cardamom

  • 4 cloves

  • 1 small cinnamon stick

  • 1 bay leaf

Ground Spices

  • 1 tsp red chili powder

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • ½ tsp turmeric powder

  • ½ tsp cumin powder

  • ½ tsp garam masala

For Garnish


๐Ÿฒ Instructions

Step 1: Fry Onions

  1. Heat oil/ghee in a heavy pan.

  2. Fry sliced onions until golden brown.

  3. Remove half and crush for later use.

Step 2: Cook Chicken

  1. Add whole spices to the same oil.

  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and sautรฉ.

  3. Add chicken and cook until color changes.

Step 3: Yogurt & Spices

  1. Lower heat and add yogurt gradually while stirring.

  2. Add ground spices and crushed fried onions.

  3. Cook until oil separates.

Step 4: Dum Cooking

  1. Add ½ cup water if needed.

  2. Cover and cook on low heat for 20–25 minutes.

Step 5: Final Touch

  1. Sprinkle garam masala.

  2. Add kewra/rose water.

  3. Garnish and turn off heat.

Serve hot with:
Naan or sheermal
Plain rice or zarda
Raita and salad


❄️ Storage Tips

  • Refrigerate in an airtight container for 2–3 days.

  • Reheat on low heat with a little water.
